Harlan Capital Advisors, LLC was originally formed by Michael W. Harlan in 1996 to provide financial and accounting advice and services to companies pursuing consolidation strategies. From 1996 to 1999, Harlan Capital Advisors consulted with several companies in the environmental, medical services, industrial, and construction material industries. As a result of these consulting activities, several successful companies were formed, went public, grew, and remain active today, more than 15 years later. In May 1999, Mr. Harlan joined one of the companies he was providing consulting services to and founded U.S. Concrete, Inc. (NASDAQ: USCR). He served as the founding Chief Financial Officer before being promoted to Chief Operating Officer and ultimately being named President and Chief Executive Officer in 2007. Under Mr. Harlan’s leadership, U.S. Concrete became the premier company in the markets it served and grew from five operations generating $167 million in annual revenue to over 180 operating locations with annual revenue of just under $1.0 billion. Mr. Harlan led U.S. Concrete through the “great recession” and financial crisis from 2007 to 2009 and after successfully completing the turnaround of U.S. Concrete, he left the company and reopened his consulting practice with a greatly expanded focus.
